Something New Magazine was invited to pay a visit during the renovations of the now open, La Mia's. Watching Carly Jervis-Goode's ideas come into fruition to
Inspire the transformation of this family business was really something Special. Having visited La Mia's throughout the renovation, through to the launch, and subsequently for drinks, for tapas and for dinner, I always come back dreaming of the food and can't wait to return!
I have known Carly for a long time personally and profesionally. Carly has run many large events including charity and networks events and runs her own catering company. So when I heard about this new venture I was so happy and excited for the future of Poole Quay with this soon to be up and running success!
What has made it really really unique is the small but poignant details of this authentic family run restaurant. Everywhere you look, if you know, you know!
La Mia's is named after the eldest daughter of the family, Mia, who you will find helping out with the biggest smile on her face. The cocktail Menu, named after the younger daughters, Isla and Eva.... A photo of the late Ian Goode, take pride of place in the entrance on the wall.
Ian Goode, Carly's father started as a Blue Coat at Caister On Sea and Entertainment was his first name.
Carly's dad met Irene, (Carly's mum) there and eventually they moved to Bournemouth where Ian ran a large hotel The Manchester hotel for 17 years and went on to have two children Carly and Ross . The Manchester Hotel, winning award after award for best hotel and entertainment. Ian eventually moved on and for 14 years ran the Bournemouth pier; the pier theatre was the best.
In 2012, Ian was given the highest achievement award to Bournemouth for all his charity work and work for Bournemouth presentented by bcp council. BCP called him "Mr Bournemouth"
In 2018 Ian sadly passed away aged 66 to Prostate Cancer. Carly, his daughter, still to this day fundraises for this charity and has raised £52,000 to date.
Carly has also donating funiture and decorated the Sandbanks ward area at Poole Hospital where Ian was looked after by the team before he passed away.
So Ian sits on the wall and watches over the place and I know he would be so proud of his daughter Carly and his granchildren and the brand new 'La Mia's'. Carly definitely follows in her father's footsteps and has big shoes to fill....
La Mia's has a energetic vibe and arguably just what Poole quay really needs. I have been a few times now, each time having a different experience, whether it be just going to the bar. The set up is lovely and very welcoming, with bar stools and a long bar or you can go and sit in the comfy lounge area, where Carly's mum Irene picked the huge clock on the feature wall, or you can congrigate and mingle around the bar! What ever takes your fancy!
Not to mention Carly's husband Ian who has worked endlesly to get this place looking the fabulous way it does.
You will see alot of Ross, Carly's brother, another big voice around Dorset. He's a great speaker and a great support to Carly and the family.
You can sit and be wined and dined at a table, inside or outside! Outside there is a beautiful view over Poole quay, perfect to watch the yachts, power boats, people watch or just soak up the glorious rays of sunshine!
Wherever you sit, it doesn't matter, you will be guaranteed gorgeous fresh authentic Mediterranean tapas from the outstanding chefs (I must get their names, as the food is impeccable and with a 5 star score on the door, food hygiene rating!) with locally sourced fresh food.
George and his team will ensure that your experience from the moment you walk in through the door to the moment you leave is first class.
La Mia's is open day 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and/or drinks.
They also cater for weddings, parties, networking and corporate business events.
Christmas parties whilst also offering bottomless brunch and kids entertainment in partnership with the amazing Minky Moo's.
Check their website for more information, don't forget to book ahead to avoid disappointment...
With my biggest heart,
Sebrina x
